So we all heard of the hypnotist who made that guy dance around the room like a chicken right?! Well hypnotherapy is NOTHING like that, quite the opposite in fact. In this blog I am going to describe what hypnotherapy is and why it is so useful for anyone wanting help with changing negative behaviours and learning how to feel confident, calm and happy.
MYTHS & FACTS OF HYPNOTHERAPY
M: Can you make me do things against my will like some magician with exceptional powers? (If only !)
F: You are in control the whole time. During hypnosis you cannot do anything against your will, morals or values. You feel a natural state of focused attention, much like being completely absorbed in a movie or book. You’re awake but highly focused, which makes you more open to suggestion.
M: Only fools or the weak minded can be hypnotized.
F: Nope it is not related to intellect, strength of mind or the ability to fooled or tricked. You can’t be hypnotized against your will. People under hypnosis won’t do anything that goes against their values or morals. I find those with an open mind, good imagination and willingness to relax respond better to hypnosis.
M: You might get stuck in hypnosis.
F: This is not possible. You would always naturally awaken.
M: Hypnosis is a form of mind control.
F: Err no its most definitely NOT! By very definition its a deep relaxed state that reduces stress and anxiety. It’s used in medicine and therapy. Hypnotherapy can help with stress and pain management, anxiety, phobias, sports performance, and even gaining a disciplined mindset.
M: Anyone can be hypnotized.
F: Not everyone is equally hypnotizable: Some people are more naturally responsive to hypnosis than others. About 10-15% of people are considered highly hypnotizable.
“There is nothing more peaceful than allowing yourself to be talked down into a trance like state”
Conclusion
Hypnosis is a gentle way to encourage your unconscious mind to get onboard with your conscious minds’ desires. The impact it can have upon your behaviours can be profound and liberating. The more open you are to the process, like anything, the more you will reap the rewards of all hypnotherapy has to offer you.
